Two years ago in 2025, The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had launched a unique ‘Clean Toilet Picture Challenge’, where you can get rewarded for reporting a dirty toilet at Toll Plazas along the National Highways of India, and it had extended this scheme last year until 30 June 2026. It has now further extended this scheme till 30th June 2027.
It was announced today on 23 July 2027 by the NHAI that they've extended the ‘Clean Toilet Picture Challenge’ initiative till 30th June 2027, with an objective to further enhance cleanliness and user experience at toilet facilities along the National Highways of India.
The extension of the initiative aims to further enhance cleanliness and user experience at toilet facilities along the National Highways and ensure continued public participation in this citizen-centric initiative, along with timely processing of FASTag recharge reward linked to the initiative.
Under this ‘Clean Toilet Picture Challenge’ campaign, the pictures of dirty or unclean toilets shared by National Highway users are assessed and eligible claims under the scheme are processed in a time-bound manner. A FASTag recharge reward is credited to the linked Vehicle Registration Number (VRN).
This ‘Clean Toilet Picture Challenge’ scheme is applicable only to the toilet facilities that are constructed, operated, or maintained under NHAI’s jurisdiction and is not applicable for toilets that are located at retail fuel stations, dhabas, or other public facilities that are not under NHAI’s control.
The rewards under this initiative will be in the form of a FASTag recharge worth ₹1,000, which will be credited to the linked vehicle registration number (VRN), by using RajmargYatra App. Conditions apply - the details are below.
The initiative is open for all National Highway commuters in India, who can participate by uploading clear, geo-tagged, and time-stamped photographs of unclean toilets through the latest version of the Rajmargyatra Mobile App.
Users are also required to provide basic details including name, location, vehicle registration number and mobile number while submitting the unclean or dirty toilet pictures.

How to report dirty toilets at Toll Plazas along National Highways?
The ‘Clean Toilet Picture Challenge’ is open to all National Highway commuters in India. If you're a National Highway user, then you can participate by uploading clear, geo-tagged, and time-stamped photographs of unclean toilets through the latest version of the Rajmargyatra mobile app.
You're also required to provide basic details including your name, location, vehicle registration number and mobile number, while submitting the pictures through the app.

What is the reward and how to claim it?
Each eligible Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) reporting such an instance of unclean or dirty toilets will receive a reward of ₹ 1,000 (Rupees One Thousand only) in the form of a FASTag recharge credited to the linked Vehicle Registration Number (VRN).
Each VRN shall be eligible for only one reward during the entire scheme period. The reward is non-transferable and cannot be claimed in cash.

Note that each National Highway toilet facility shall be eligible for reward consideration only once per day, irrespective of the number of reports received.
That is, in cases where multiple reports are submitted for the same facility on the same day, only the first valid submission through the Rajmargyatra App will be considered.
This scheme is applicable exclusively to toilet facilities constructed, operated, or maintained under NHAI’s jurisdiction only.
Toilets that are located at retail fuel stations, dhabas, or other public facilities that are not under NHAI’s control, are excluded.
All entries will be subject to verification through AI-assisted screening and manual validation, wherever required.
The NHAI had launched the unique ‘Clean Toilet Picture Challenge’ in September 2025 to encourage National Highway users to actively report unclean toilet facilities at the toll plazas along National Highways.
So far in 2026, this initiative has received an enthusiastic response from the National Highway users in India, where around 429 commuters reporting unclean toilets have been rewarded with FASTag recharge worth Rs. 1,000 each.
Last year, this initiative had around 350 commuters reporting unclean toilets and around 265 eligible entries were rewarded with FASTag recharges.
Through this initiative, the NHAI aims to meet its commitment to improving user amenities and fostering a culture of shared responsibility for cleanliness and hygiene along the National Highways.
How to get Rajmargyatra App?
Launched in August 2023, Rajmargyatra is the official, all-in-one app, from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). It is available to be installed through the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
