List of all Vande Bharat Express train services of Indian Railways and their features

Here's a list of all Vande Bharat Express trains running as of now in March 2026 and their features, plus upcoming Vande Bharat trains

The Vande Bharat Express trains are the modern, comfortable, air-conditioned reserved high-speed trains of Indian Railways. It is currently the most advanced semi-high-speed train of Indian Railways.

Currently, there are two types of Vande Bharat Express trains. The regular Vande Bharat Express is a reserved, air-conditioned (AC) chair car semi-high speed train service that runs between major cities which are typically with less than 10 hours of journey between them.

The Vande Bharat Sleeper is a reserved, air-conditioned (AC) semi-high speed Express train service with sleeper coaches, which runs on long distance routes across India.

Indian Railways has introduced the indigenously designed and manufactured Vande Bharat (Sleeper and Chair Car) Express services with modern coaches, advanced safety features, and passenger amenities, for improving the railway travel experience in India.

Below is a list of all the active Vande Bharat Express train services that are running, including both Vande Bharat Express trains that are AC Chair Car trains as well as Vande Bharat Sleeper Express trains, as of now in 19 March 2026, plus their features that make them stand apart from regular Indian Railways trains.

As on 19 March 2026, the following 81 Amrit Bharat Express (Chair Car) train routes, that is, 162 Amrit Bharat Express (Chair Car) train services are operational on the Indian Railways network.

List of all Vande Bharat Sleeper train services

For long distance travel, the Sleeper variant of Vande Bharat Express has been indigenously designed and developed, and their services are begun after successful completion of extensive trials.

As on 19 March 2026, the following 1 Amrit Bharat Express Sleeper train routes, that is, 2 Amrit Bharat Express Sleeper train services are operational on the Indian Railways network.

Here's a list of all the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express train routes, along with the train numbers, that are currently operational:

  1. 27575/27576 Howrah- Kamakhya Vande Bharat Sleeper Express

The first ever Vande Bharat Sleeper train, the 27575/27576 Howrah- Kamakhya Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, was launched on 17 January 2026.

Its first regular journey commenced on 22nd January 2026 from Kamakhya, and on 23rd January 2026 from Howrah.

Upcoming Vande Bharat Express trains

So far, any particular route for any upcoming Vande Bharat Sleeper Express has not been announced.

With the completion of the electrification between Sakleshpur and Subramanya Road, the Bengaluru-Mangaluru rail route is now fully electrified, and the Railways Minster had said that they'll be now able to run Vande Bharat Trains through this route to Mangaluru, although any dates for such a launch has not been specified.

About Vande Bharat Express trains and their features

There are currently two types of Vande Bharat Express trains in India, which are the regular Vande Bharat Express trains (with AC Chair Cars) and the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express trains (with AC Sleeper coaches).

While the Vande Bharat Express has a top speed of 180 kilometres per hour (kmph), its maximum operating speed is 160 kmph. It's actual speed depends on various factors like track conditions or curves, stoppages, etc.

The regular Vande Bharat Express is a reserved, air-conditioned chair car semi-high speed train service that runs between major cities in India, which are typically with less than 10 hours of journey between them.

Indian Railways introduced indigenously designed and manufactured Vande Bharat trains with modern coaches, advanced safety features and better passenger amenities. These Vande Bharat Chair Car Trains have following features:

  • Jerk-Free Semi-Permanent couplers.
  • Fitted with KAVACH.
  • Centrally controlled Automatic Plug Doors and Fully Sealed wider gangways.
  • Emergency Alarm Push buttons and Talk Back Units on all Coaches.
  • Improved fire safety – Aerosol based fire detection and suppression system in electrical cabinets and lavatories.
  • Higher acceleration with design/operating speed of 180/160 kmph.
  • Driver-Guard communication with voice recording facility & Crash hardened memory.
  • Air conditioning units provided with indigenously developed UV-C lamp based disinfection system for deactivating 99% harmful bacteria from conditioned air to improve the hygiene standards inside the passenger area.
  • Better Ride Comfort.
  • CCTVs in all Coaches.
  • For Divyangjan passengers special lavatory in the driving coaches on each end.
  • Coach condition monitoring System (CCMS) display with remote monitoring.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Express train services [Sleeper Cars] and their features

The Vande Bharat Sleeper is a reserved, air-conditioned (AC) semi-high speed Express train service with sleeper coaches, which runs on long distance routes across India.

To improve travel experience and set new benchmarks in terms of safe and comfortable journey, these train sets are provided with modern coaches having advanced safety features and passenger amenities, such as:

  • Jerk-Free Semi permanent couplers and Anti Climbers.
  • Fitted with KAVACH.
  • Higher acceleration with design/operating speed of 180/160 kmph.
  • Crashworthy Design of Car body complying with EN standards.
  • Fire barrier doors at the end of each coach for compliance of Fire Safety standards.
  • Aerosol based fire detection and suppression system in electrical cabinets and lavatories.
  • Regenerative braking system for energy efficiency.
  • Air conditioning units provided with indigenously developed UV-C lamp based disinfection system for deactivating 99% harmful bacteria from conditioned air to improve the hygiene standards inside the passenger area.
  • Centrally controlled Automatic Plug Doors and Fully Sealed wider gangways.
  • CCTVs in all coaches.
  • Emergency talk-back unit for communication between Passenger and Train Manager/Loco Pilot in case of emergency.
  • For Divyangjan passengers special lavatory in the driving coaches on each end.
  • Centralised Coach Monitoring System for better condition monitoring of passenger amenities such as Air conditioning, Saloon Lighting etc.
  • Ergonomically designed ladder for ease of climbing on to upper berths.

The new Vande Bharat Sleeper train currently has 16 coaches, including 11 three-tier AC coaches, 4 two-tier AC coaches, and 1 first-class AC coach, with a total capacity of around 823 passengers.

Vande Bharat Sleeper train's advanced aerodynamic exterior design reduces air resistance, which ensures a smooth and stable train ride even at high speeds.

Capable of running at speeds of up to 180 kilometres per hour (kmph), the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express will significantly reduce travel time while offering a quiet and premium travel experience.

More about Vande Bharat trains

While new Vande Bharat train services and its variants are being introduced, it is an on-going process that depends on various factors such as, capacity of the section, availability of path, availability of required rolling stock, availability of matching infrastructure for rolling stock, maintenance requirement of railway tracks and other assets, and occupancy and the traffic requirement of the section.

Indian railways began the Vande Bharat train services in February 2019. As of 16 December 2025, 164 Vande Bharat Train services were operational, and of January 2025, 164 Vande Bharat train services are operational across India, with 162 Vande Bharat Chair Car trains and 2 Vande Bharat Sleeper trains.

From December 2025, Indian Railways introduced regional cuisines on select Vande Bharat trains to further enhance passenger experience by offering authentic local flavours reflective of India’s diverse culinary heritage. Traditional dishes are offered, which are associated with the regions through which the trains operate.

Along with the Amrit Bharat Express trains and the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail train services, the Vande Bharat Express trains are the advanced modern train services of Indian Railways.
