3 New Amrit Bharat Express Trains launched today on 23 January 2026

Indian Railways launches three Amrit Bharat Express and one passenger train, connecting Kerala and nearby southern states of India. Here's the details

Three New Amrit Bharat Express trains and one passenger train that connect Kerala with nearby states in the southern part of India, were launched today by the Indian Railways. Here are the details of these new trains.

The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has flagged off four new train services today on 23 January 2026, which are : the Nagercoil-Mangaluru Amrit Bharat Express, the Thiruvananthapuram-Tambaram Amrit Bharat Express, the Thiruvananthapuram-Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express, and a new passenger train between Thrissur and Guruvayur.

Amrit Bharat Express trains are fully non-AC services with Sleeper and General Class coaches, aiming to provide high-quality travel at affordable fares.

The 3 New Amrit Bharat Express trains each have 8 Sleeper Class coaches, 11 General Second Class coaches, 2 General Second Class coaches that are Divyangjan-friendly (disabled-friendly), and 1 pantry car.

The introduction of these new train services aims to significantly enhance long-distance travel and regional connectivity between the southern states of India, which are, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, making travel more affordable, safe and time-bound for passengers, and to improve tourism across these regions.

Till recently in early January 2026, there were 30 Amrit Bharat Express train services operational across India. Just few days ago, on 17th and 18th January 2026, 9 new Amrit Bharat Express trains were launched, which connect Assam and West Bengal with the north, west, and southern regions of India.

And today, on 23 January 2026, 3 new Amrit Bharat Express trains are launched which connect Kerala with other states or regions in southern part of India. This increases the total number of Amrit Bharat trains in India.

The details of these 3 New Amrit Bharat trains launched on 23 January 2026 are below:

1. Nagercoil-Mangaluru Amrit Bharat Express

Train No. 16329/16330 Nagercoil Junction - Mangaluru Junction - Nagercoil Junction Amrit Bharat Express (Weekly)

This train connects Kanyakumari (near Nagercoil) in Tamil Nadu, which is the southern tip of India where the Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea, and Indian Ocean meet, to Mangaluru - the major city and destination in Karavali or coastal Karnataka region.

This train begins its regular service from 27 January 2026 Advance reservation for these Amrit Bharat Express services open at 08:00 hrs on 24 January 2026

  • This is a Weekly express train that runs from Nagercoil Junction near Kanniyakumari - the southern tip pf India, and goes through all the major towns and cities of coastal Kerala and goes till Mangaluru Junction in coastal Karnataka, and back.
  • This train departs at 11:40 hrs (11:40 AM) from Nagercoil Jn on Tuesdays.
  • It departs from Mangaluru Jn on Wednesdays at 08:00 hrs (08:00 AM).
  • This train goes through several popular tourist and beach destinations along the western coastline of the southern part of India, from near Kanyakumari till Mangaluru.

2. Thiruvananthapuram-Tambaram Amrit Bharat Express

Train No. 16121/16122 Tambaram–Thiruvananthapuram Central- Tambaram Amrit Bharat Express (Weekly) begins regular service from 28 January 2026.

Tambaram railway station is near Chennai, just around 23 kilometres away. This Amrit Bharat express train connects Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital city of Kerala, to Chennai, the state capital city of Tamil Nadu.

  • This is a Weekly express train that runs from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala to Tambaram near Chennai, in Tamil Nadu.
  • This train departs Tambaram (near Chennai) at 17:00 hrs (05:00 PM) on Wednesdays.
  • It departs from Thiruvananthapuram Central at 10:40 hrs (10:40 AM) on Thursdays.
  • This train goes from the western coast to the eastern coast of the southern part of India. It goes through some popular tourist and temple or pilgrimage destinations in the southern part of India, such as, Thiruvanantapuram, near Kanyakumari (Nagercoil Town), Thirunelveli, Thiruchirapalli (Trichy), Madurai, Srirangam, and Chennai.

3. Thiruvananthapuram-Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express

Train No. 17041/17042 Charlapalli - Thiruvananthapuram North - Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express (Weekly) is to begin regular service from 27 January 2026.

Advance booking for this train opens on 24 January 2026 at 08:00 hrs. Charlapalli is one of the major railway terminals in Hyderabad, Telangana. This train connects the state capital city of Telangana with the state capital city of Kerala.

  • This is a Weekly express train that runs from Charlapalli in Telangana to Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.
  • This train departs Charlapalli (in Hyderabad, around 20 kilometres from city's center) at 07:15 hrs (07:15 AM) on Tuesdays.
  • It departs from Thiruvananthapuram North at 17:30 hrs (05:30 AM) on Wednesdays.
  • This train goes from Thiruvananthapuram on the south western coast to the center of Telangana state of India, while going through several places in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, along the way.

Thrissur – Guruvayur Passenger - Regular Train

In addition to the 3 New Amrit Bharat Express trains, the daily regular train services between two towns in Kerala, the Thrissur – Guruvayur Passenger (56115/56116) was also launched today on 23 January 2026, which is to run daily from 26 January 2026.
