Nature in Pictures 3 - Over a decade old pics : Splendid sunsets, Fabulous flowers, cute kitten, puppies, ducks, and more, but in low-res!
We're trying to do something different on this episode of our Travel Throwback / Nature in Pictures series. These are the times I wished I had a better camera to capture these moments. But alas!
Back in the days, there were some occasions when there were nice scenes worthy of being photographed and remembered but I didn't have a good camera at hand to capture it. Phone cameras weren't as good back then as they're nowadays and sometimes when a nice or interesting scene presented itself, well, I had to do with what I had at hand at the moment.
So, here are some interesting pictures that I retrieved recently, which I had taken between 12 to 15 years ago. I've got to say that they're mostly low resolution pictures, so don't blame me if they look underwhelming to you now, but it was the best I could do with what I had at the moment at that time.
These pics were mostly snapped by me from a low resolution mobile phone camera or a simple point-and-shoot camera, from over a decade ago - from around 12 to 15 years ago from now. It is even possible that the quality of some these images were further reduced due to the automatic compression forced upon it by the social media platform when I had uploaded them on it many years ago.
The pictures in this episode are not much about travels or destinations, but these are about some scenes and events from different places and times that I had forgotten until I retrieved these pics recently.
These pictures are from the days before Trayaan, and I found them interesting and bringing back some old memories of times I wished I had a better camera at hand. This is why I post them here in this episode, despite them being sort of low resolution pictures.
I've divided these pictures into four categories below : Splendid Sunsets (a Serene Evening and a not so serene but splendid evening), Flowers and Foliage, Animals (Cat, Dogs, and Ducks),and Miscellaneous.
Splendid Sunsets 🌅
A Serene Evening and Sunset 🌅
This is one of the low-resolution images that I wish that I had a better camera at that time back then. Well, at least it still captures a nice moment in time.
The empty bench and the sun going towards a sunset between the leaves of a tree - it appeared like a nice scene to remember, which is why I just clicked it, even though I knew back then that the little camera in the little old phone wouldn't really do justice to it.
A not-so-serene but splendid Sunset! 🌅
Now, the only reason I call this splendid sunset "not so serene" because it was seen by a busy highway in the outskirts of the big city Bengaluru (yes, it was "Bangalore" back then). Because heavy traffic is anything but serene!
But, traffic aside, and despite a poor resolution of an old feature phone back in the days, this picture still reminds me of those great golden rays diverging through the clouds above the setting sun.
I'm sure you'd agree that this kind of a sunset certainly offers some respite from the traffic woes of a busy place. But how many of you even notice it in the middle of a busy bustling city?
I knew the little camera in the little phone would fall short from capturing the full splendour of the scene in its full glory, but it did the job of capturing it the best way that it could and that is all that matters, as something is better than nothing.
Flowers and foliage 🏵️🌺🍃🌿
The above is a picture with two different kinds of flowers, one yellow and one dark pink, on different small trees or plants.
These orange flowers seem similar to the pink ones in the previous picture.
These pictures are both from outskirts of Bengaluru in Karnataka (Bengaluru was Bangalore back then in those days!).
These pictures were taken over a decade ago, perhaps around 14 or 15 years ago, I'm not sure of the exact dates as the dates weren't there on these retrieved images.

And here's a lot of nice blue flowers glowing over the lush green foliage. Unfortunately I don't know the names of any of these flowers, neither these blue ones nor the yellow, pink, or orange ones that you just saw above.
Do you know what flowers are these, all the flowers which are seen in the pictures on this post? Can you tell their names?
There's one more picture of a flower below in the miscellaneous section, it's a lone flower. I placed it below there as it is a different kind of scene, in my perspective.
Animals
A Kitten playing 🐱
Kittens are naturally very playful. Of course, when you see one, you just want to pet it, don't you? Well, so do we. Although I know a few who don't like cats in particular, there is no denying that cats are indeed very popular, as you can see them all over the internet.
Also, this is probably the first cat picture that we're posting here on Trayaan, which is kind of surprising as we had launched this site over 12 years ago!
Puppies! 🐶 🐕
These were some pups that I'd seen in outskirts of Bengaluru, on a sunny afternoon right after lunch time. No wonder these little dogs were resting in the shade then.
And yes of course, spent some time petting the friendly ones among them.
Ducks in a lake 🦆 🦢
We had seen some nice ducks swimming on Sankey Tank, which is a small artificial lake in Bengaluru. We had gone there one evening, to just walk and spend some time sitting on one of the benches around the lake.
We noticed some ducks there, swimming around and trying to catch and eat fishes in that small lake. There were at least six or seven ducks there, if I recall it correctly, but it's been around 14 or 15 years since then, so now I can't say for sure how many were there at that lake, on that day.
They remind me of the delightful ducks (or were they goose?) at Padmasambhava Buddhist Vihara - the Golden temple of Bailakuppe, in Mysore district of Karnataka, during our Coorg Trip in Monsoon that was also somewhat within a year or two from this one, around 15 years ago.
I also remember seeing another bird at Sankey Tank, which was probably not a duck, a long necked one, which was flying around and then diving underwater to catch the fishes. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a picture of it among these old pictures that I got back recently.
While almost all ducks were white, one of them was black-and-white, as you can see from the above picture. It's not very clear, as I've already mentioned earlier, that these are low-resolution pictures from over a decade ago.
Miscellaneous 𓇢𓆸
Here's a couple of miscellaneous things, with the one above being a flower on a plant coming out through a gap in the blocks of granite slabs that pave the way. This flower may be a dandelion, but I'm not sure. What do you say?
It's like saying life, or nature, will always find a way to rise through adversity. You just can't block it, see?
This is a big anthill or a termite mound that I found, and snakes are also known to dwell in such mounds, which is why it is sometimes called as a snake mound in the local language Kannada.
In India, there are people who worship such snake mounds too. This is because the snakes such as the cobra and the king cobra, are considered to be divine and sacred and hence they're worshipped. These snakes may dwell in such mounds, which is why they're also considered sacred and worshipped by the devotees.
Now whoa there! Wait a minute, what's this trash doing here amongst all the nature pictures, you ask? Well, this is the reality. This picture was snapped on the same evening at Sankey Tank as the ducks that you just saw above, in this post. I thought I'd just include this too, to stress the importance of not trashing and littering everywhere.
Of course, this picture is from around 14 years ago, and it may not reflect its current state nowadays, and I don't know how it is these days.
The only reason I included this in this post is to emphasise the importance of responsible travel by keeping things clean and litter-free wherever we go, by not contributing to trash, by not littering everywhere.
Do see our post on how to be a more responsible traveller by not littering, for more on this!
That's all for now. You may see more in these travel in pictures series, along with our Travel Throwbacks and our Nature in Pictures series.
