The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has successfully launched the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) based Barrier-less Tolling System tolling system at the Chorayasi Toll Plaza on the Surat–Bharuch section of NH-48 in Gujarat.

If the toll payment is missed or unsuccessful, an e-Notice will be issued, which has to be paid within 72 hours of the E-Notice, failing which, double the user fee be charged (see details below).

Around 41,500 vehicles have already crossed the MLFF toll location, on the first day after the implementation of this system.

About India’s first Multi-Lane Free Flow Tolling System

Announced yesterday on 01 May 2026 by the Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, India’s first Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) barrier-less tolling system is a state-of-the-art system enables seamless toll collection without requiring vehicles to stop, using advanced technologies such as Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and FASTag.

The MLFF framework introduces barrier-less tolling with minimal human intervention, which enables vehicles to pass through the tolling points without stopping, thus ensuring a seamless flow of highway traffic. This system uses advanced technologies such as Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and FASTag-based electronic toll collection to enable automated and contactless tolling operations.

It is expected to significantly reduce congestion, improve travel time, enhance fuel efficiency and lower vehicular emissions on National Highways of India.

E-Notice for pending toll payments; Here's where to Check and pay E-Notices

Summary about E-Notice

  • When you may get an e-notice? If your vehicle crossed a MLFF toll plaza but the toll was not paid via your vehicle's FASTag
  • If not paid within 72 hours from the issue of E-Notice, you'll be charged double the payment
  • You can pay within 72 hours to avoid double charges
  • You can Check and pay via the official portal on https://nhfeenotice.parivahan.gov.in
  • You may raise grievances, if any, within 72 hours of issuance of an E-Notice on the official portal

Details about E-Notice

For a seamless experience, NHAI has urged National Highway users to maintain sufficient balance in their FASTag accounts. In case of scenarios such as insufficient FASTag balance, invalid or non-functional FASTag, users will be issued an Electronic Notice (E-Notice) for non-payment of user fee.

Such users who have a pending fee will be required to pay the normal user fee within 72 hours of the E-Notice.In case of non-compliance after 72 hours, the user fee will be charged at twice the normal rate of the vehicle category.

E-Notices can be accessed and paid through the designated portal https://nhfeenotice.parivahan.gov.in/. You can also raise grievances within 72 hours of issuance of an E-Notice.

Non-payment of E-Notices may result in blacklisting of FASTag and restriction of other vehicle-related services through the VAHAN platform.

NHAI also suggests to use a High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) for your vehicle, if you haven't already. New vehicles manufactured on or after April 1, 2019, already come pre-fitted with High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) in India. HSRP number plates have a unique laser-etched serial number that can be read by the ANPR-enabled cameras.

Benefits of Multi-Lane Free Flow Tolling System

As per the recent announcement by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, introduction of MLFF marks a major milestone in the digitisation of India’s tolling ecosystem and the modernisation of National Highway infrastructure in line with global standards

This new MLFF system is expected to significantly reduce travel time, decongest highways, improve fuel efficiency, lower vehicular emissions, and minimise human intervention in toll operations.

Around 41,500 vehicles have already crossed the toll location with the MLFF system, on the first day after implementation. If this new system proves successful, it will be progressively implemented in more tolled stretches of National Highways in India.
