Indian Railways launches 1 new Amrit Bharat Express and 2 new Express passenger trains connecting Assam with various regions in India, today on 13 March 2026, and a special train to be upgraded as a regular Amrit Bharat Express. Here's the details

Kamakhya–Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express, Guwahati–New Jalpaiguri Express, and the Narangi–Agartala Express trains were launched today by the Indian Railways. In addition to that, the Charlapalli – Shalimar Special Train will be upgraded and regularised as an Amrit Bharat Express train. Here are the details.
A new Amrit Bharat Express train that runs between Kamakhya Junction in Guwahati city of Assam, and Charlapalli station in Hyderabad city of Telengana, plus two other new train services were flagged off today by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, from Kokhrajar in Assam. The two other new trains that were launched today are the Guwahati–New Jalpaiguri Express and the Narangi–Agartala Express.
Kamakhya–Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Weekly Express

This train runs between Kamakhya Junction at Maligaon in Guwahati city of Assam, and Charlapalli station in Hyderabad city of Telengana. Directly connecting the north-eastern region with the south-eastern region of India, this train goes through places in Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.
Train No.s 15673 / 15674 Charlapalli – Kamakhya – Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express is a Weekly Train service that will begin regular services from Charlapalli on 18 March 2026 and from Kamakhya on 22 March 2026. This weekly train service starts from Charlapalli on Wednesdays and reaches Kamakhya on Friday. It starts from Kamakhya on Sundays and reaches Charlapalli on Tuesday.
The stations this train goes through are: Charlapalli, Nalgonda, Guntur Jn, Vijayawada Jn, Gudivada Jn, Bhimavaram Town, Tanuku, Rajahmundry, Samalkot Jn, Duvvada, Pendurti, Vizianagaram Jn, Srikakulam Road, Palasa, Berhampur, Balugaon, Khurda Road Jn, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Jajpur Keonjhar Road, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kharagpur Jn, Andul, Dankuni, Bolpur (Shantiniketan), Rampur Hat, Malda Town, Barsoi Jn, Kishanganj, Aluabari Road, New Jalpaiguri, Jalpaiguri Road, New Cooch Behar, New Alipurduar, GossaigaonHat, Kokrajhar, NewBongaigaon, Abhayapuri Assam, Goalpara Town, Dudhnoi, Chaygaon, Kamakhya.

Charlapalli–Shalimar Amrit Bharat Weekly Express
Train No.s 17065/17066 Charlapalli – Shalimar Amrit Bharat Express train goes from Charlapalli station in Hyderabad city of Telengana to Shalimar railway station in Shibpur, Howrah of West Bengal. This train, operating as 07225/07226 Charlapalli – Shalimar Special train, has now been approved to be regularised as an Amrit Bharat Express train.
This train will commence its journeys as a new regular Amrit Bharat Express train from next month in the first week of April as a Weekly Express train. It will begin its journey as a regular Amrit Bharat Express from Charlapalli on 07 April 2026 and from 08 April 2026 from Shalimar. This Weekly Train will start from Charlapalli on Tuesdays and reach Shalimar on Wednesday. It will start from Shalimar on Wednesdays and reach Charlapalli on Thursday.

Amrit Bharat Express and its popularity

Amrit Bharat trains are very popular in India, with over 100% Sleeper Class occupancy since it began its services and new Amrit Bharat Express trains keep being launched by the Indian Railways.
Indian Railways is gradually increasing the number of Amrit Bharat Express trains, with many new ones being launched within three months this year in 2026 itself. Just a couple of days ago, on 11 March 2026, two new Amrit Bharat Express trains were launched.
And now, with the Kamakhya–Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express being launched today, the number of Amrit Bharat Express train services in India has now increased to 60. And when Charlapalli-Shalimar special train begins its journey as a new regular Amrit Bharat Expess, the numbers will increase to 62.
Introduced by Indian Railways, the Amrit Bharat train services are fully non-AC modern trains to provide affordable means of transportation to the low and middle income families. Presently, Amrit Bharat train consists of 11 General Class coaches, 8 Sleeper Class coaches, 01 Pantry car and 02 Luggage cum Divyangjan coaches.
The Amrit Bharat Non-AC sleeper travel is priced at around ₹500 per 1,000 kilometres, with no dynamic pricing, and proportionately lower pricing for short and medium-distance journeys, to ensure accessibility and affordability for the common passengers or budget rail travellers.
Guwahati–New Jalpaiguri Express

The new Guwahati - New Jalpaiguri Express connects Guwahati in Assam to New Jalpaiguri Junction railway station in Siliguri, Jalpaiguri district in northern part of West Bengal.
The train covers the districts: Kamrup, Nalbari, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Coochbehar, Alipurdar, and Jalpaiguri.
Narangi–Agartala Express

The new Narangi–Agartala Express connects two major cities in Assam and Tripura. It runs between Narangi railway station in Guwahati, Assam, to Agartala in Tripura.
The train covers the districts: Kamrup Metro, Morigaon, Hojai, Dima Hasao, Karimganj, North Tripura, Unakoti, Dhalai, and West Tripura.
