No increase in fares up to 500 km in ordinary class, rates increased for non-AC and AC classes in Mail and Express trains. Here's the full details of changes.

Indian Railways has rationalised passenger train fares, with effect from 1st July 2025, increasing the rates for non-AC and AC classes in Mail and Express trains.
There is no change in fares for single journey in Suburban trains and for Season Tickets for both suburban and non-suburban routes. Below are details of the change in fares in other types of trains.
As per the announcement by the Ministry of Railways today on 30 June 2025, Indian Railways has rationalised the Basic Fares for their Passenger Train Services, effective from 01 July 2025.
As per the announcement, for the ordinary class, there will be no increase for up to 500 kilometres. There will be an increase of Rs.5 for the distance slab from 501 to 1500 kilometres and a Rs.10 increase for distances up to 2500 kilometres, and a Rs.15 increase for the distance slab from 2501 to 3000 kilometres.
Details of the changes in Passenger Train Fares and what remains unchanged
Unchanged fares for train tickets
- Suburban single journey fares - No change.
- Season Tickets (for both suburban and non-suburban routes) - No Change.
Changes for Ordinary Non-AC Classes (Non-suburban trains)
- Second Class - Fare increased by Half Paisa per Kilometre as per these conditions:
- No increase up to 500 km distance.
- Increase by Rs.5 for distance 501 to 1500 km.
- Increase by Rs.10 for distance 1501 to 2500 km.
- Increase by Rs.15 for distance 2501 to 3000 km.
- Sleeper Class - Increased by 0.5 paisa per kilometre.
- First Class - Increased by 0.5 paisa per kilometre.
Changes for Mail/Express Trains (Non-AC)
- Second Class - Increased by 1 paisa per kilometre.
- Sleeper Class - Increased by 1 paisa per kilometre.
- First Class - Increased by 1 paisa per kilometre.
Changes for AC Classes (Mail/Express trains)
- AC Chair Car, AC 3-Tier/3-Economy, AC 2-Tier, and AC First/Executive Class/Executive Anubhuti - Increased by 02 Paisa per kilometre.
Fare revision also applies to premier and special trains
Note that the fare revision also applies to premier and special train services such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas, Humsafar, Amrit Bharat, Mahamana, Gatimaan, Antyodaya, Jan Shatabdi, Yuva Express, AC Vistadome coaches, Anubhuti coaches, and Ordinary non-suburban services, as per the revised class-wise fare structure.
Ancillary Charges remain unchanged
Additional charges, such as, Reservation fees, Superfast surcharges, and other charges will remain unchanged. GST charges will continue to be added as applicable, and fare rounding principles will also remain unchanged.
Revised Charges effective from 1st July 2025
The revised fares for Indian Railways passenger trains will apply to tickets booked on or after 01 July 2025. Tickets booked before this date will remain valid at the existing fares, without any fare adjustment. PRS, UTS, and manual ticketing systems will be updated accordingly.
As per their report, the Ministry of Railways has rationalised the basic fare of Passenger train services and has announced these revised fares, for streamlining fare structures and to enhance financial sustainability of passenger services.
