The Amrit Bharat Express trains are very popular among Indian Railways trains. Since their launch, they've recorded Over 100% Sleeper Class Occupancy.
Referred to as the "Common Man's Train", Amrit Bharat Express trains offer a faster, safer and jerk-free long distance non-AC rail travel at affordable rates. It's a fully indigenously developed trainset under the Indian government's Make in India initiative.
Indian Railways introduced Amrit Bharat Express train services, which are are fully Non-AC modern trains, to provide affordable means of travel to the low and middle income railway passengers. As of now, the Amrit Bharat Express has 11 General Class coaches, 8 Sleeper Class coaches, 01 Pantry car and 02 Luggage cum Divyangjan (people with disabilities) coaches.

About Amrit Bharat train and its features

Amrit Bharat trains are fully Non-AC modern train services launched by Indian Railways for providing affordable means of quality travel. The Amrit Bharat Express is a fully indigenously developed trainset under Government of India's Make in India initiative
Amrit Bharat Express trains are a new class of modern super-fast passenger trains that are non-air-conditioned and low cost, which consist of reserved Sleeper coaches as well as unreserved General coaches.
While the existing Amrit Bharat trains are fully Non-AC trains, the upcoming Amrit Bharat trainset version 3.0 will include AC coaches too.

Amrit Bharat Express trains presently contain 11 General Class coaches, 8 Sleeper Class coaches, 01 Pantry car and 02 Luggage cum Divyangjan coaches.

The Amrit Bharat Non-AC sleeper travel is priced at around ₹500 per 1,000 kilometres, with no dynamic pricing, and proportionately lower pricing for short and medium-distance journeys, to ensure accessibility and affordability for the common passengers or budget rail travellers.

High Speed and enhanced Safety standards are the hallmarks of Amrit Bharat Express trains with following enhanced features and amenities.
- Better aesthetics of seat and berths with enhanced look & feel on the lines of Vande Bharat Sleeper.
- Jerk Free Semi-Automatic Couplers.
- Improved Crashworthiness in coaches by provision of crash tube.
- Provision of CCTV system in all coaches and Luggage room.
- Improved designs of toilets.
- Improved design of Ladder for ease of climbing on to the berth.
- Improved LED Light fitting & Charging Sockets.
- Provision of EP assisted braking system.
- Aerosol based fire suppression system in toilets and electrical cubicles.
- USB Type-A and Type-C mobile charging sockets.
- Emergency Talk Back system for two-way communication between Passenger and Guard/Train Manager.
- Non-AC pantry with enhanced heating capacity.
- Fully sealed gangways with quick release mechanism for easy attachment and detachment.


The first Amrit Bharat Express train was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 30 December 2023 from Ayodhya Dham Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh, which ran between Darbhanga (in Bihar) and Anand Vihar Terminal in (Delhi).
In early January 2026, there were just 15 Amrit Bharat routes or 30 Amrit Bharat Express train services that were operational in India. Between January and March 2026, Indian Railways had rapidly introduced 15 more new Amrit Bharat Express routes, that is 30 more Amrit Bharat Express train services, and more were subsequently launched in the coming months.
New Amrit Bharat train services are gradually being introduced on different routes, including some exisiting express train services that are upgraded to Amrit Bharat Express trains.
The Amrit Bharat Express trains, along with the Vande Bharat Express trains, Namo Bharat rapid rail services, and other trains with the modern LHB coaches, are the advanced modern train services of Indian Railways.
